The Role Responsibilities

Strategy
Ensure regulatory compliant Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) that supports the Group’s business strategy;
Ensure consistent implementation of Board-approved Risk Appetite (RA) across the Group; and
Management guidance and decision support analytics in the context of Risk Appetite.
Business
Responsible for embedding RA into the bank’s processes;
Lead the bi-annual review process of the RAS;
Provide analytics and guidance to senior management in context and for calibration of RAS;
Ensure RA effectively cascaded to countries;
Provide RA validation of the Corporate Plan ensuring that all Principal Risk Types are considered as part of strategy discussions;
Provide guidance/oversight to the RA agenda to ensure that the shape and performance of the portfolio is as per expectations; and
Oversee the development of remediation plans for breaches of RA.
Processes
Ensure RA is adequately captured, monitored and reported within the Operational Risk Framework.
People and Talent
Establish good working relationships with key stakeholders; and
Effectively manage and develop members of the RA team.
Risk Management
Ensure any breaches to RA are adequately reported to Group Risk and Board Risk Committees, along with remediation status; and
Oversee analytical support for senior management and Group level committee papers as requested.
Challenge Corporate Plan and Strategy to ensure alignment to RA;
Ensure that the RAS is consistent with regulatory expectation, and in line with peers;
Ensure RA is at the centre of business decision making so that the Group operates within the Board approved RA; and
Recommend inclusions into the RAS based on regulatory changes as well as internal analysis identifying emerging risks for the bank.
Governance
Ensure that RA policy and standards are implemented and updated as and when required;
Liaise with Risk Framework Owners to ensure that any applicable policies / procedures related to RA are updated accordingly; and
Ensure audit expectations are adequately addressed.

Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Lead the Risk Appetite team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles : [Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment.] *
Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
Key Stakeholders
Other ERM functions including Risk Reporting
Risk Framework Owners
Business; and Finance (including Stress Testing).
Other Responsibilities
Assess alternative methods of viewing the portfolio incl. risk-return, economic capital, portfolio concentrations, correlations;
Responsible for the review of portfolio management methodologies used (e.g. via surveys, literature and gain insights from conferences/papers to implement into Portfolio Risk); and
Develop models and analytical solutions in order to assess concentrations, correlations and emerging risks in the portfolio.
Responsible for ensuring that potential acquisitions and liquidations are assessed against the Principal Risk Types prior to approval.

Our Ideal Candidate
10+ years of experience in risk with working knowledge of both financial and non-financial risk type e.g. operational risk, financial crime;
Experience and knowledge of Risk Appetite development and risk assessment;
Strong creativity, problem-solving and analytical abilities;
Good knowledge and a grasp of banking practice and products and awareness of regulatory frameworks;
Excellent inter-personal skills; comfortable in building relationships across teams, with outstanding written and oral communication skills;
Strategic and forward looking with strong analytical and data interpretation skills;
Expertise in using MS Office tools – Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Confident self-motivated person with a high level of drive and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
