HW coordinator to Core Computer in future Volvo car
We imagine that our friends, families, and children are transported in a personal, sustainable, and safe way. What we build is a self-driving, fully electric, connected, and super safe Volvo car.
The amount of software in our future vehicles is by far exceeding many other software critical products and businesses. We tend to see the future cars as a computer on wheels. To orchestrate such a huge software-centric system, we both need a computer that is powerful enough to carry all features from control loops to AI/Machine Learning capabilities.
The brain in this platform will be a Core Computer with the capacity to carry a vast majority of electric control units and applications in the car. This new centralized signal system aims to enable optimized software architecture and continuous deployment for further development as well as over the air data updates and real-time decision-making for autonomous drive.
About Our R&D – Core System Software
In our part of the R&D, we code the base software on the Core Computer to refine computational power and to enable successful integration with applications. Our teams work in an agile manner organized according to SAFe to be able to quickly adjust to changing requirements. We work with an a-state-of-the-art embedded multiprocessor environment from Nvidia including hypervisors, Linux, QNX, Rust, and other modern technologies.
Role Specifics – HW coordinator
You will be responsible to have the overall control over what our need for new HW is for our Internal test environments, we have an expanding build up to create a very efficient Continuous integration environment (to meet our customers demand for fast releases). The HW that you will be fully aligned with is for example the central computer in the next generation of cars, including special cables needed for riggs and test applications. You will collect all need for internal upgrades and estimate the external need from rest of the Volvo that uses our HW in their riggs and test applications. You will therefore interact with many of our internal design teams as well as finance to assure we have covered all new needs and has this is included in the budget before we order our part of HW. In this process you will also gain the knowledge in what changes we have between different HW releases to be able to guide the users if and what they need to update. You are also the one that have full control over our equipment and distributes new HW samples to both internal users in our organization and external users. When there is a need to send parts for repair you are helping our organization with that having a dialogue with our suppliers.
We are looking for you who have an engineering degree or equivalent experience from years of practice. You like to meet people and support the roll-out of our new technology. You are engaged with a curious, open-minded, and positive approach. You like structure and have things organized and well planned. Fluency in English is mandatory.
